What it is

SwiftChess is chess made faster. The board is 6×6, the Queen and the Rooks or Bishops reach only 4 squares, pawns step one square at a time, and there is no en passant. Games are short and every move matters.

Rooks game

The free game: two Rooks, two Knights, a Queen and a King, no Bishops. You play White against the computer.

Bishops game

Add the Bishops key and you can also play with Bishops in the corners instead of Rooks. Different lines of attack, different tactics.

Mix it

With the Pro key, put a Rook in one corner and a Bishop in the other, and choose which side each one stands on.

Choose your color

Pro lets you play Black and let the computer move first.

Set up positions

Pro lets you place any pieces on the board and play from there. Replay an ending, try a puzzle, or teach a friend.

Play a friend

Pro adds two-player mode, taking turns on one screen. Pro also adds the Expert computer level.

How to get it

  1. Download the programDownload the zip file, unzip it, and open SwiftChess.exe from the folder. The free game has no time limit.
  2. Like it? Email me to order a keyTell me your name, which key you want (Bishops or Pro), and a friend's referral code if you have one. I reply with payment details.
  3. Paste your keyI email you the key. Paste it into the key box and press Unlock. You only do this once.

Android phone or tablet: tap "Download for Android". Open the downloaded file and tap Install. Android will warn that the app is not from the Play Store. Allow it for this one install. The free game works the same as on Windows, and your key works on both.

SwiftChess is a new program and is not code-signed yet. Click "More info", then "Run anyway".

What if I lose my key or get a new computer?

Paste the key from your email again. Keys never expire and do not need the internet. If you lose the email, write to me and I will send it again.

Does the game save my progress?

No. Each game starts fresh. Your key is remembered, though.

Is there a phone version?

Yes, for Android phones and tablets. Tap "Download for Android" above. It is not on the Play Store yet, so Android asks you to allow the install. There is no iPhone version yet.

How strong is the computer?

Easy is gentle and makes careless moves now and then. Medium is a fair game and never leaves a piece hanging. Hard (Bishops and Pro keys) and Expert (Pro key) think further ahead and do not give pieces away.
